The Story Behind Mission SOLANO’s Duncan Miller Award
Twenty-five years ago, Duncan Miller approached Red Top Dairy with a request: “Would you give me milk to help our local community? I’ll make sure it goes to our Solano County neighbors living in poverty.”
With the help of his close friends Mona and Linn Benson, Duncan began picking up milk weekly from the local dairy and bringing it to Fairfield Presbyterian Church for their outreach efforts. All was going well until one day an agent from the California Department of Agriculture followed Duncan and Mona from the dairy after a pickup.
Mona recalls: “A guy pulled us over and asked, ‘Why are you transporting all this milk in an unrefrigerated vehicle?’” Read more...
